In 1968, Societe des Petroles d'Afrique Equatoriale Francaise (SPAFE), the predecessor of TotalEnergies EP Gabon, discovered the large Torpille field in offshore Gabon. In 1969, a development licence was granted, and in 1972, the field was brought onstream.
