Report summary
The Qaiyarah and Najmah fields are located in Nineveh province in Northern Iraq, around 20 kilometres south of the city of Mosul and 70 kilometres west of the Kirkuk field. Qaiyarah has produced small quantities of heavy oil since the 1930s but Najmah remains undeveloped. The fields were tendered under two separate contracts in Iraq's second petroleum licence round, held in December 2009. Both fields were awarded to Angola's national oil company, Sonangol.
