The Guajira area was Colombia's principal source of gas for many years. It includes the large offshore Chuchupa field and the smaller onshore Riohacha and Ballena fields.The original Guajira Association contract (in place since 1974) expired in 2004. It covered Riohacha, Ballena, and Chuchupa A, the first platform at Chuchupa.
