The Escravos Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) is the main gas transmission line between the Niger Delta and the commercial capital Lagos. It was commissioned in 1989 to supply gas to the domestic market. Throughput has grown as upstream gas developments have increased, spurred on by domestic supply obligations that came into effect in 2008.Although the line starts at NGC's gas treatment plant in Warri, piped gas originates from Chevron's Escravos gas plant in Delta State.
