Maple Gas Corporation, a small US independent integrated company, has, to date, made the only shale gas discovery in the Ucayali Basin in the remote central eastern jungle of Peru. During the drilling of an exploration well in 2009 (Block 31-E) with a sand formation target, Maple did not confirm its conventional hydrocarbon target.
