India’s government is prioritizing domestic oil and gas to meet burgeoning energy demand with affordable, accessible and secure sources of supply. Changes to terms were introduced for the Open Acreage Licensing Policy round 8 (OALP-VIII) and additional improvements have been made for OALP-IX to attract explorers. ONGC once again dominated OALP-VIII. OALP-IX is being touted as a “mega-round”: large swathes of offshore acreage that were previously off-limits are now on offer.
