Report summary
The refinery is located between Zlatica and Pirdop, and is near Srednogorie some 80km west of Sofia. It was constructed as a state owned operation using Soviet expertise to treat anodes from the adjacent Pirdop smelter. At commissioning in 1958 it was known as the Georgi Damianov refinery and had a capacity of 64kt/a cathode. By 1998 the capacity was said to be 60kt/a using PCR, but only 40kt/a in DC mode.
