Goldstrike ore is refractory. The mine comprises an open pit and underground operation based on the Goldstrike ore-bodies. Several ore-bodies have been delineated: The Betze and Deep Post deposits are being mined as one large open pit, while underground operations comprise 10 zones with Meikle as the main. In 2017, Barrick announced plans to integrate its Goldstrike and Cortez operations into a single consolidated unit with shared infrastructure, joint mine planning and a digital operations management centre. The integration was expected to improve productivity, optimise allocation of site resources and capital spending. The accompanying analysis covers production from the Goldstrike mines until 2016. From 2017 onward (post-consolidation), combined production from the mines is covered elsewhere within the service under a consolidated mine profile titled "Barrick Nevada".
