The POSCO PT Krakatau JV was established in August 2010 to build an integrated steel plant next to PT Krakatau’s existing Cilegon steel plant. The new Cilegon-Banten plant began production in 2014 and can produce 3.0 Mtpa of crude steel. The plant has improved the stability of its operations since 2021, after reporting weak results for several years, including operating losses as recently as 2020. The company enhanced the operating efficiency of its blast furnace, reducing the cost of production, with help from its parent POSCO. The introduction of HRC products in 2022 also helped to stabilize profitability, compared with when the company sold slabs. This report provides a comprehensive asset summary of the steel plant, including an operational overview, cost and production metrics.
