What’s the key takeaway from this report?

Gazprom's LNG portfolio is growing quickly. The ramp-up of third-party supply from Yamal LNG and Cameroon GoFLNG will increase its LNG supply from 1 mmtpa to over 5 mmtpa. Third party supply will also help Gazprom to target new markets aside from its traditional Asian buyers.

Yet, Gazprom's LNG strategy is once again focusing on organic growth - an area which it has had mixed success in the past. And its LNG projects face a number of hurdles. Will the company maintain LNG profit margins?

Gazprom’s LNG portfolio is growing quickly with the ramp-up of third party supply from Yamal LNG and Cameroon GoFLNG increasing supply into its portfolio from 1 mmtpa to over 5 mmtpa. Third party supply will also help Gazprom to target new markets aside from its traditional Asian buyers. Yet, Gazprom’s LNG strategy is once again focussing on organic growth, an area which it has had mixed success in the past. Sakhalin-2 Expansion and Baltic LNG are at the core of this growth strategy, with further small scale projects targeting the bunkering market. However, Gazprom’s growth plans are at risk from US sanctions, European politics and competition from Russian rivals. Furthmore, the majority of Gazprom’s LNG sales are on the spot market and with a well-supplied market in sight, profits could be tight in the coming years. Yet, with a low cost upstream supply source and its geographical proximity to major markets, Gazprom LNG projects are likely to remain economically attractive.
