Webinar | Power System Flexibility: Is energy storage the key to unlocking Europe's net-zero targets?

Europe is in the process of formalising plans to achieve a net-zero emissions economy by 2050 through the Green Deal. This transformation brings about an unprecedented supply-demand balancing challenge.

VRE (variable renewable energy: wind and solar) will be the largest source of power supply by 2023 and will continue to grow thereafter. Consequently, the dispatchable plant fleet will be required to adapt frequently and in larger volumes.

Existing assets will, therefore, need to become more flexible. In addition, we expect a build-out of new flexible plant-assets with the ability to run economically over shorter periods. These new build assets will be dominated by interconnectors, gas peakers, energy storage and demand response.

Join us on 4th June at 11 AM BST as we share our findings and expectations from our latest study on Europe power system flexibility and energy storage, focusing on the big five power markets in Europe; France, Germany, GB, Italy and Spain out to 2040.

Key questions answered during the webinar:

  • How will the changes in supply-demand balancing impact existing inflexible assets?
  • What opportunities arise in the build-out of new flexible plant-assets over the short, medium and long term?
