Polymer Demand Scenarios in Global Single-Use Packaging Redesign and Reduction
Report summary
This insight studies the impact of plausible reductions in polymer demand in single use primary plastic packaging within Europe, North America, Asia and the rest of the world. This accelerated waste reduction model makes use of ten key factors – mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, brand commitments, packaging recyclability, legislation and bans, lightweighting, bio-based content, material substitution, carbon footprint and reusable and refillable packaging. An assigned probability for each factor in each region determines the likelihood and impact of further waste reductions to determine an expedited timeline for sustainable initiatives compared to Wood Mackenzie’s base scenario.
